Electronic artist Deadmau5 has sold his personal song catalog and that of his Mau5trap record label to Create Music Group in a $55 million deal. The package includes the sound recordings and copyrights for over 4,000 songs, and features a joint venture for the artist to release future work. Create Music Group aims to implement a “robust multi-platform strategy” to revamp the catalog and reissue classic releases from the label, which includes work by Skrillex, Rezz, Noisia, Feed Me, and i_o. The collaboration signifies a shift towards exploring gaming, VR, and live streaming for revenue streams, continuing the DJ’s influence in music, technology, and beyond. With a career dating back to 2005, Deadmau5, aka Joel Zimmerman, says the partnership was a natural fit. “We didn’t need to look far when we were considering a partner to help get it all to the next level,” he said. “With Create, I feel the music is going to reach more.” (Variety)
